Dragon Quest IX is a DS game.
I thought this was pretty damn keen. Portable DQ! And a game I haven’t played before. AWESOME!
Dragon Quest IX is an action RPG.
Buh? My turn based battles!
I’m not so much bothered that DQ9 is an action RPG other than my favorite part of the whole RPG genre is starting to fall by the wayside. Final Fantasy 12 was, and I’m still coming to terms with my actual feelings, little short of a disaster. Going in, I knew it wasn’t going to be what I wanted in a Final Fantasy game, but even then I got less than I hoped fore since I didn’t even really enjoy myself.
It’s akin to one’s favorite fruit going out of season, but then finding it shall never bloom again. I am, although, lucky that I can return to the original games that I do enjoy and replay them. But they never do again have that first play sweetness that is not unlike one’s first high off a drug.
So is that my main objection? Perhaps. I can’t say that with my wide array of tastes in RPGs that I’m adverse to change or options. But I am saddened to lose that which I do enjoy.
Oh well, I just hope SMT4 isn’t an action game!

I don`t know why you`re so disappointed about the change. Change is what makes the world go round. Horii himself was starting to get fed up with the old system. You know something`s up when the creator himself wants to do something different.
I`m glad to see this change. I
I’m a fan of consistency. I don’t mind new things, but I hate when old things go away. You’ve got to remember that when this happens, we’ll probably never get a new turn based DQ again. That’s not a good thing. Even if DQ9 is fuck all awesome, it is a bummer.
I don`t see how it`s a bummer at all. I hate consistency. It`s boring.
Well, I guess that’s just you then, huh?
It’s not as if DQ is the only RPG series, nor is it the exact same game every time. So, I like to have these similar types of games in a series, and then a variety of other things to choose from as well. Makes sense to me. :D
