To say that Symphony of the Night is my favorite game of all time is an understatement. Tell me that I can only play one game for the rest of eternity and I’d say “Okay,” and then snag my PS1 and my copy of SotN and be happy. Anyways, this past Wednesday it was released for XBLA.
I’m miffed.
The game plays fine. Well, as fine as it can be with the shitty 360 directional pad. But still plays fine. Actually, better in some regards as there is no slowdown anywhere and saving/loading to the hard drive is pure awesome. Transitioning between rooms couldn’t be faster. There are just some clear oversights that make me want to punch someone.
First, you can’t change your controls. Well, okay technically you can change them. The game even recognizes that you did. It just doesn’t actually do anything – you’re stuck with the default controls. That’s not to say the default controls are unintelligible monkey shit, but I prefer doing it my way, and fuck they even went through the effort of changing the button icons in the goddamned controller configuration menu, so you’d figure they’d spend some time making it work.
Also, the leader-boards are fuxed. I thought I’d be all hot shit on them boards when I got to Maria in under 8 minutes this time. Yeah, until I saw people with records of 24 seconds and the like. At first I blamed cheaters, but when my roommate got recorded for a few seconds past a minute and a half to do the same task, I realized there’s must be some shit stuck in the gears.
Which really sucks, because it’d be hella cool to have actual timed properly runs recorded and see how things rank. For now, I just have to keep my own damn records and see if my time improves. While I don’t have a screen, I hit the final savepoint in 58 minutes this time, now I just have to fucking beat Dracula, that asshole.
