Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was made with love. Not the “I want you to be happy” kind but the “Aw shit, I’m not sure if the kids still believes in Santa Clause, so on Christmas Eve let’s play recordings of some fat man saying ‘Ho, ho, ho’ so they will believe” kind. The end result isn’t as shitty as people may have led you to believe.

Warning: Heroes finale spoilers below.
Last night delivered unto me the Heroes season finale. Of course, I missed it due to what is probably best called a brain fart. Oh well. I have the season pass on iTunes so I just waited for it to come up there.
Anyway, I really, really liked it. It wrapped up everything I wanted to see wrapped up, had some damn fine tense moments, and ended on a note that left me wanting to watch more. I’d say that comes off as a good finale.
Now, I venture to the interwebs to do a little discussion and find that the vast majority of my peers are not happy with this episode! Puzzled, I delved into the madness and discovered many expected a big brawl of sorts between Peter and Sylar, something that has been apparently “owed” to the fans for a long time.
I’m not sure I get this sentiment. Heroes the show is at its core a drama. Sure, it’s about people with superpowers and that leads itself to “comic-book-isms” which would then again bring you into big epic fights. But I don’t feel as if that is what brought me to watch this show. I’m relatively glad that the “showdown” as it were was brief and to the point. Overanalyzing the scene could bring up some flaws, I’m sure, but nothing seemed blatantly out of place. So I’m happy with the resolution.
Rumors are flying about what next season will bring, some say that there will be an entire new cast, putting the old characters behind us. But I’m quite curious as to the fates of four specific characters, as they definitely left it with those lives on the line. So, it would be pure cruelty to the fan base to ignore these questions. But, I have good faith in this show’s ability to keep me entertained.
It’s quite tantalizing, really.
My location!
I’ll be going to the smallish city of Gojo in the Nara Prefecture. Seems to be about a 2 hour train hop from Osaka, which is exciting since I’ll be able to revisit my beloved Den-Den Town with a fair amount of ease. Everything I’ve been reading about it seems rather pleasant, so I’m quite pumped.
Oi.
I’m winding down towards actually completing my college education and I’m so swamped with everything that I haven’t updated as much as I’d like. Really sucks.
That said, I still don’t know where I’m going to go in Japan, still have assloads of tests and homework to do, and am genuinely tired.
But hey, BÖC are coming to Rochester this Friday, and I’ve got myself a ticket. Woo woo!
Now this is a cereal. Honey flavor. Bunches of stuff. Oats. Peaches. Delicious.
Fuck you, Grape Nuts.
Spent a good chunk of last night playing Bang! with some friends. This card game takes you to a magical land of spaghetti western, with all sorts of outlaws, renegades, sheriffs and deputies.
Play begins by randomly distribute a character and a role card to each player, draw out hands and start shooting. I’ve only played with 4 players (minimum requirement. I supports up to 7), which tends to put a heavy disadvantage on the sheriff, as their goal is to take out the remaining players. The rest of the players in this four player scenario are two outlaws, who win if the sheriff kicks the bucket, and the renegade, who wins if he’s the only one remaining. The problem is you don’t know who’s who, ‘cept for the the sheriff, and you can’t let your role out to the other players.
The rules felt a little vague to us at times, but disputes always resolved fairly quickly with a little bit of logic. Other than that, once everyone got the rules down, the games went guns-a-blazing fast. With sixteen characters each with unique special abilities and everyone getting their role randomly, the game was varied and entertaining enough to keep us entertained through about 10 playthroughs in a couple of hours.
Bang! is cheap enough that I’d highly recommend having someone in your gaming group snag it and keep it around for some quick fun. I don’t think it trumps Lunch Money as far as all-out-brawl games go, but it’s a welcomed addition to my collection.
