Shoofly Pie

2007/08/02

I’ve been in Japan for about 5 days now. I am finally in my apartment after days upon days of meetings, seminars and just plain running around living out of a bag. To say that I was ready to get to my apartment would be a vast understatement. But now here I am, trying to settle in. With everything happening at such a fast pace, it had yet to click in my brain that I was actually in Japan. Tokyo is such a huge city that it doesn’t even register on the “I’m somewhere else” radar and while traveling, there was so much on my mind that nothing really clicked. It wasn’t until I went to shut the shades and I saw a fly jumping around in between my glass and screen doors.

“Damn things are everywhere,” is the exact thought that entered my brain. And then a wave of shock went through my body. Everywhere. Obviously. Including Japan. Where I am. Right. Now. Wow. How about that? “You’re in Japan!” my brain tells me as I go to the fridge. I grab a Grapefruit and Hops soda and walk over to my bed. Tastes terrible, but most of my favorite things did the first time. New favorite? We’ll see.

I throw in Pulp Fiction, one of my favorite movies, to start off my life in Gojo with a relative bang. A psychologist that I just made up probably would think that associating a new thing with a favorite thing would bring goodness to said good thing. Man, I should write a self help book.
