It’s got nutrients an’ shit!

Just made myself some garlic wieners and potatoes. Potatoes with the skin left on! I know some people are all about removing the skin from their fruits and veggies, but when I saw folks peeling their grapes, or even better somehow sucking the innards out, at lunch I couldn’t help but ask why.

“That’s just how it is,” was the most common answer.

Completely bizarre, but what the hell. I gave it a shot and inadvertently sprayed a nearby teacher with grape innards. Whoops. Looks like I’m off to a great start.

  • I could see it being done to concord grapes. The skin is tough and tastes bitter. The ones we have in the yard. That nobody eats.
What you do miss your mouth when you squeezed that grape?

  • About the grapes… I remember I had grapes with my host family in Kanazawa, they saw me ate them without peeling them and they told me I should not eat like this. I also asked them why but they said you better just do it in Japan… so yes… it is the way it is… and don’t ask why…

  • It’s astonishing how Japan finds ways to be bizarre (to Americans, at least) with even the most mundane objects.
