So I was musing around my thoughts and came to a brilliant realization. Both the Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry series have a lot in common. I main difference is that I don’t hate Final Fantasy. Sure, Devil May Cry lacks about 8 installments on Final Fantasy but in this day and age of milking and whoring I’m sure they’ll catch up eventually. Or maybe they’ll pull a Halo and end my suffering. Alas, this is Capcom who I think now have more Mega Man Series than there are days in a month.
Anyway, onwards to my rambling comparisons!
The first of each series was released when the genre was budding. Potentially in a difficult state of not blooming to full popularity. They set up the basic foundations that would be followed, yet slightly updated and derived in each later installment. Wow, what a brilliant fucking observer I am. Sure, okay, fine. This is easy to say about any game that started a long series. But the key point here is how they came at the right time to help save a genre. Don’t read into that so much. I’m not saying the console RPG and 3d Action genres exist solely because of these two series. But don’t kid yourselves, these sure as hell helped.
Now their sequels are regarded as terrible. Although I’m fairly sure more people like Final Fantasy 2 than Devil May Cry 2. As they should. But the dirty bugger of the series clearly lies in the second place for both franchises. Granted, they’re pretty much hated for different reasons. FF2 was obtuse and hard. DMC2 was just awful. Let’s also not forget that Final Fantasy 2 helped to usher the beautiful SaGa series into creation. As far as I know DMC2 is still sucking dick behind a Denny’s.
Where the second is bad the third is often considered too hard. Die hard fans of the series offer comforting remarks of “It’s not that hard, really.” and “You suck.” but the third entry of both series is quite daunting to new comers. Both even got a release that tweaked some aspects of gameplay! Haha, what a stretch on that one since FF3′s came so many years later. But I think I gave you enough to build a comparison here, so bite my scrumptious ass.
The following is more of a prediction as I haven’t played much of DMC4 out of the demo. But let’s have some fun. FFIV introduced a new battle system that kept with the series for five more iterations. DMC4 demo bored me.
Well, fuck. I’m out of ideas.

So this means the 12-year-olds of the future will never shut up about DMC7? Lame.
Also, does this mean DMC8 will have a card game? Awesome.
