Get with the times, man!

So I have been spending way too much time with my nose in a grammar book in preparation for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test which is going to be a week and day from today.

Reading all these grammar points isn’t exactly interesting, but some of the sentences really show how much things have changed in the world.

For example, one sentence basically said, “If he’s not answering his phone, he must have already left.”

And it took me a minute to realize what it actually meant.

I mean, if he’s not answering his phone, what connection does that have with him leaving? Then the realization that they must have been talking about a landline sunk in. They weren’t talking about someone calling a cellphone, but the last time I actually called a landline is not an event I can clearly remember. Especially in Japan.

Really makes me wonder how old these sentences are, or who is writing them.

I didn’t beat Mother 3 last week!

A shame, but I did pound through a good bit of the game, and while it is not exactly the sequel I wanted, it is a solid game. Hope to finish it soon.

I picked up Last Remnant and Chrono Trigger DS.

I haven’t seen anything new of CTDS yet, so all I can comment on is that yes, it is CT and yes, it is awesome. Actually, there are the new menus which can be controlled with the touch screen and I find them quite nice. There’s something about splitting up information between two screens that just makes it nicer on the eyes, as well. Not having the battle screen cluttered with the menus and status of your characters also makes for an attractive package.

The Last Remnant is awesome.

I called it just from the TGS demo and a lot of people are having fun. A lot of critics are slamming it hard for it’s technical problems, which it is chock full of. I see the loading screen a lot, and if you don’t have it installed to the hard drive which the new 360 upgrade this week allows for, I hear the game can be pretty much a pain.

Alas, I haven’t suffered through these problems, only that the fact the game is a bit ugly, but who cares. The battle system is still fairly quick and still very fun. I get a whole Warhammer 40k meets SaGa vibe from the whole thing and it is awesome. I need to spend some more time with it, but so far it is one of the most enjoyable games I have played in a long time.

Not much this past week.

Been doing my daily WiiFit and Brain Age. Other than that it has been Mother 3.

I think I realized that the exploration in Mother 3 is slightly different from how 1 and 2 handled it and this may be what is making me enjoy it slightly less.

It’s not just the chapter system that is causing the exploration to be different. The world itself is much smaller. Or even if it isn’t it sure feels that way. There’s a lot more traveling through the same place again and again and it is interesting to see the changes to areas in each chapter, that hasn’t been enough.

Now in Chapter 7, I have a feeling this won’t change drastically by the end of the game. It doesn’t ruin it for me so much as give me a type of experience I don’t quite know what i think of yet.

I did reserve The Last Remnant and Chrono Trigger DS which are both coming out on Thursday and both don’t want me to study for the JLPT. Jerks. Just hoping I can finish Mother 3 by then.

God Bless America

Jesus christ, I think I do miss America a little. Or at least their amazing sandwiches.

Perhaps that is the missing link for my fat going away, but I’ll try and pretend that it isn’t.

But now what will the ladies hold onto?

My love handles are gone.

Holy fucking shit.

It’s not like I continuously grab at them to remind me of why college was in general a bad idea, but i was scratching an itch the other day and noticed that where once sat large chunks of fat now only is home to squishy skin and … some fat.

…?

All hail WiiFit!

I’m gonna go buy some games to celebrate.

These are the Weeks of Our Games – 11/09/2008

While a wholly unoriginal, but brilliant, idea, I will start making weekly logs of what I have been playing. I have gotten bad about making updates, and hopefully putting it to at least a weekly schedule will help get me in gear.

So, over the past week I actually finished two games, which is a sight to be seen.

Turning the page

I’m moving on right now to chapter 4 in Mother 3.

I don’t know what it is about chapter systems, but I don’t tend to want them in games. Actually, I don’t like them conceptually, but I guess now thinking about it I can’t think of one that I don’t like. Suikoden 3 was great and Dragon Quest 4 is amazing. But something about the idea of splitting up the story of a game into chapters just doesn’t feel right to me.

Perhaps it’s just the idea that a new chapter implies that you do not have start from where you left off in the last one. Many books jump from character to character, and I sometimes want to continue the last character’s story, but don’t want to skip the current one.

So in the end, I guess I don’t like them because it gives me a sense of addiction? That I need to push through something I may not like to get back to something that I do? Conceptually that seems brilliant, and in execution it has yet to fail me. But something about the whole concept is off putting to me.

Wonder if I can figure out what that is.

Boweling

Goddamit.

Last night I went to the karaoke place to confirm for my party later today. The owners were extremely nice to me and invited me to come in and have a drink and sing, as there are cute girls there and I should spend time talking to them!
But I had driven there, and I was in the need of making a bowel movement that I was unsure their store could handle. It was going to be epic in proportion. Worlds would collide. I did not know that the store would still be around today if I did what I had to do in their bathroom.
And they kept talking to me, being nice and all.

Poopy.
