These Are the Weeks of Our Games – 12/14/2008

So, I am still playing Chrono Trigger and Last Remnant. Did get some Brawl and Halo 3 in with some buddies the other night, though.

Actually, I only get a little bit of Chrono Trigger in at night before I go to bed. I really want to get to the ending because of the bonus dungeon and the fact that there is a new ending. I have decided my end game party will be Magus, Lucca and Ayla, as after talking to some friends we couldn’t think of a combo that had a worse chance of winning. I’m crazy, I know. There’s practically no healing, very little in terms of double techs and while Magus is pretty powerful, I don’t know if that’s going to help enough.

If anyone can think of a worse team, let me know.

Getting some friends over for Brawl just reminds me how goddamned awesome this is. I’ve been trying out new characters, just for shits and giggles. Olimar is so fucking interesting because he just kinda is… there. I don’t know how to win with him, but I have won with him once in a while so I’m going to keep him up.

And while we sucked hard, playing other teams of 4 in Halo 3 was fun as hell. I’m really not that much into first person shooters anymore, but damn is it sometimes fun to blow shit up. I didn’t pick the settings for what type of games we would get, other than team. Our last one was nothing but rockets 4 on 4. We won. Barely. And hopefully didn’t wake my neighbors.

Other than that it has been The Last Remnant getting my game time. A lot of my game time. Because that is what this harsh mistress of a game demands if you want to conquer it. Holy shit. I can’t remember the last time I started taking notes on which characters have what stats and skills so I could properly make my teams.

I’m starting to wish there was a way to save teams formations and quickly switch between them. Being able to remember what team I was using before I switched things up to give a shot at a boss with a new strategy would be nice. But then again, this forces me to not rely on any one old strategy and keep trying new things when the going gets rough.

And it has gotten rough. 

I’m at a boss fight right now who just keeps tearing my ass and making me wear it as a hat. He has the ability to bring back any of your unions that he kills, meaning if someone gets knocked out, you’re pretty much finished.

The thing is, he is going to scale with me, so I need to not only get more powerful, but get more balanced and skillful in order to take him down. I like that though. I also like how there are enough quests to entertain me while I try to power myself up.

Really enjoying the game, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a long time before I even come close to finishing the thing.
