My copy of Nintendo Sound Selection Volume 2, Loud Music – Koopa came in. I still have no idea how to properly title these CDs and looking at the spine only confuses me further. It says “Koopa Loud Music Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.2″ so I guess Koopa is the artist if you want to think about it that way. Anyway, I have been listening to it since I got it yesterday afternoon.
As its theme is “Loud” there are are quite a variety of fast tempo, energetic songs. Many of them come from racing games – the F-Zero series in particular. Wave Race and 1080 tracks also make up a good chunk and there are, unsurprisingly, some awesome Mario tunes thrown in as well. There is another track from the Famicom game 新鬼ケ島 (Shin Onigashima) which as best I can tell is a Famicom Disc System game based on a traditional Japanese folklore, but someone correct me if I’m wrong. While I don’t know anything about the game, I know I am starting to like it’s music.

That aside, I’m just not as impressed this time. Perhaps it’s because I was never much into racing games and these tracks all tend to fit into that “feeling”. It is entirely possible to a fan of this sort of music will get greater enjoyment out of the arrangement of the tracks than I. Clearly they are capable of it, as I really enjoyed what they did with the Peach album. These tracks are just not for me. There are also less tracks done by the Nintendo in-house musicians – only two. They’re still pretty sweet.

That said, there are definitely some tracks that I’m glad to have now, but I will probably pick and choose with what I listen from Koopa instead of going through the whole CD of Peach. I’m a good amount of points away from getting the Luigi CD, so it will be a few months until I can get that. But even not being as satisfied by the volume 2, I’m excited to get volume 3 in my hands.

Oh, and this volume does have a song from Animal Crossing, Keke’s Metal, which is totally badass.
