Woo! Take that, Street Fighter 4! Albeit I have a long way to go still. Nonetheless, feels good.

Lots more Street Fighter 4 this week. Working hard on Devil Survivor. Been very, very tired. To the point that I don’t think I can write a full update tonight. I’m going to a doctor on Tuesday for an acupuncture appointment. Hopefully this will help out with my back.
Devil Survivor was holding me up with a fight I could not win with the conditions I wanted, but I finally got it the other day. Haven’t finished day 5 yet, but I should be wrapping it up tonight. Or, I should have if the damn stupid AI characters I’m trying to save would stop running into demons. To be fair, they are supposed to represent thugs, so I guess they’d run into trouble thinking they’d be fine. So it is accurate AI, just annoying.
Been picking up a lot of Famicom games on the cheap. We’re talking 8 for 1000 yen, which is ridiculous considering I have been getting random picks like Ninja Gaiden which go for ¥800 itself, but I also got Spelunker and Elevator Action today which I have seen for around ¥2000 apiece. I just need to get some energy to actually play games again.
So, I’ve been toying around with this idea for a while as I’ve just gotten into picking up random Famicom games for a couple of yen. My buddy Alex does the same so we’ve decided to just play some and record our banter. It could turn into nothing, and I’m not expecting anything, but I have enough fun doing it that it’s worth it so far. Problem is I don’t want to cap it to under 10 minutes to fit YouTube’s standards and it seems Google Video is going to stop taking uploads soon. Hosting it myself would kill bandwidth like a mother as well. So if anyone knows of a decent solution, lemme know! Until Google Video stops taking videos, I’mma gonna host it there.
The first one is the Famicom release of Dragon Buster, which I vaguely remember playing the arcade version of. Oh, before the video here are a few things I learned:
- I am still bad at games.
- I really need to stop cursing so much.
- I sound funny.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Finished Game Center CX. Guadia Quest isn’t a full length RPG, but it is a meaty game. Was definitely a nice little taste of old school. Going to have to pick up the sequel, but I think I can hold off for a while as there is time now. But no time for Klax.
In Street Fighter 4 I’ve been hovering around 1000 BP for the past week. I’m definitely at some sort of turning point as far as skill level goes but it is still a bit frustrating. I can’t really work on higher level combos and the like until I can get basic execution down. That’s still the big work in progress. Wanting to do one move and pulling off a completely different one does not make for smooth battles. The amount of times I Sakura Otoshi and fail1 is staggeringly stupid. But, practice, practice, practice.
Now that Game Center CX is out of the way, I think Devil Survivor is going to be my next of the backlog to topple. I’m stuck at a battle where I’m not entirely sure if I’m able to beat the enemy I want to beat, he escapes too fast. I know there are multiple endings and shit, and if this doesn’t result in the bad ending, I may just let it be so I can finish the game.
The only new release on the horizon for me is the Persona port for the PSP, but I’m still not sure if I really want to get it as I just lost the nub off of my poor PSP. Poor PSP, how I hate you.
- Basically it’s a hop that Sakura does that sets up for a three hit combo. If you don’t start that three hit combo, i.e. press no buttons, she does a little oopsies animation and you can get attacked. If I do it accidentally, I rarely catch it in time to hit some buttons and not oopsie myself into some damage. [↩]
I’ve been really bad at keeping to my daily planing as of late. Partially due to sickness, partially due to laziness and perhaps other reasons that I don’t remember. Point is, my daily photo taking has been iffy to say the least, but the uploading has been even worse. To make things easy, I’m going to fill from the last day I uploaded to today with a bunch of pictures I took in Hokkaido. There will be also some recent ones sprinkled in as well. Sure, this isn’t honest to the daily photo thing, but eh. It is something.
So, I bought a movie. Continue reading ‘This Just In! Final Fantasy XIII To Not Suck Dong’
Lots of Street Fighter 4. Lots of losing. I’ve actually gone online with people and done training to try to figure out why I’m doing so poorly. Haven’t quite gotten it yet. No choice but to keep on truckin’ or give up. Will keep on truckin’.
Getting through Haggleman 3 albeit a bit slowly. After that would be Guadia Quest and Star Prince. I want to save Guadia for the end, but I have a feeling my shittiness at Star Prince will prevent that from happening.
Slow week. Been feeling sick and the going back to school has kept me busy. Will take Wednesday off since I have no eikaiwa that day and no classes either. Might go get a massage or some acupuncture. Back is killing me.
Finished the fourth challenge in Guadia Quest tonight. That dungeon’s maze was quite annoying, but I finally got to the boss and finished it off with ease. Going through Haggle Man 3′s challenges was a breeze and that means I’m on the final challenge: Complete all eight games.
I had already finished the original Haggle Man a while back, and I’m glad to see that counted towards the goal. No need to rebeat it. I quickly plowed through both Rally King games, with cheat codes, and hope to never have to play another racing game in my life. (Don’t tell me if GCCX2 has those types of games!) I just finished Cosmic Gate a few minutes ago, as well. That one took a few tries since I’m not so great at shooters. I tried my hand at Star Prince but couldn’t even make it through Stage 1 this time. Not excited about playing that to completion. Gonna work on Haggle Man 2 before I pass out for the night.
This game is really making me want to get some retro action going. Alas, with the number of games I’m already in the middle of, I think I should at least polish a few more off before getting into something “new”.
Not that that has been stopping me. I think I’m in the middle of ten games at the moment?
I threw Snatcher into my Saturn and began to play. I was sitting at my kotatsu with my DS prepped with Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten and JEDict ready to go on my iMac.
And I couldn’t help but wish there was an easier way.
Isn’t that ridiculous? I can take a hunk of plastic and scribble it on some device and look up Japanese characters within seconds. And I want to be able to do it with less effort. If I were to have played this game back when it was released, I’d probably have to spend hours digging through paper dictionaries to look up kanji I don’t know just to be able to figure out one word. I can do that within seconds now, but that’s not good enough for me.
I really need to just sit down and crank through some Japanese games again. I’ve been mingling through for the past weeks but I haven’t actually been doing anything constructive. I really do live in a technological paradise and yet I’m not getting motivated enough to make use of it. That’s a shame, and really almost a crime.
Lots of Street Fighter this past week. Nearly to the point of ridiculous, and it is getting a tad bit ridiculous as I am slowly getting worse and worse, it seems. It is quite frustrating.
Finished Biohazard 5. That makes one game finished over Spring Break, although I was hoping for more! Either way, I enjoyed the game, and am still enjoying it, playing it again to complete on different difficulties and unlock the unlimited ammo version of more guns.
Still cranking through Guadia Quest in Game Center CX. Or rather, I’m going around in circles because I can’t find the boss of this damn dungeon. I’m sure I’ll run out of supplies soon enough and have to warp out and try going through again. I’m actually kind of enjoying the prospect of it. But I’d prefer to find and beat the boss this time through.
That’s been about it. Been having some back pain so it’s been hard to focus on things. Still been really tired, as well. Gotta get that shit sorted out soon.
