Let’s Playing King’s Knight

In this brand spanking new episode we play one of the games made by Square before Final Fantasy came along.

  • I like it. Much improvement just from the last one, even.

  • A much better game than Hydlide, to be sure.

The squiggle, btw, increases your jump stat. Alex just happened to get hit by a fireball at the same time he grabbed the power up.

It’s definitely a RTFM kind of game. There is a continue mode, for example (press select on the title screen), that will let you play the training stages over and over again in order to level-up your characters before taking on the final stage.

I like the format you have when one of you knows how to play the game and one of you doesn’t. It has worked well so far.

PS — do a Dragon Buster II episode!

  • Yeah, I have since figured out all of the effects of the different power-ups, and why I didn’t know that I could jump (if you don’t have at least one squiggle, you might as well forget it. It’s either impossible, or takes so much time that it’s not worth doing.)

IMO, great game, and a good glimpse at some of the creativity that fed into Square’s games during the Famicom/Super Famicom era, and something that I feel is lacking in their games today.

It’s definitely a better shooter than Hector ‘87, at any rate.
