These Are The Weeks of Our Games – 08/30/2009

It’s been quite some time since I got a chance to write one of these. That would partially be due to my game time being drastically cut as of late. First being in the States for a while made it hard to game and then just getting back and getting organized for the new semester of school amongst other things1.

I did manage to finish one game this summer and it wasn’t Dragon Quest 9. I had started playing Mario & Luigi RPG back in February – actually the day after I met Eriko. It got shuffled aside somehow but I picked it up again a few days ago and made my way to the end. Ridiculous final boss aside, it wasn’t exactly packing difficulty but enough of a challenge to constantly be fun. I hear the sequel Partners in Time isn’t as good but I hope to find the time to dig into it anyway.

Plenty of time has been spent on DQ9 but not much in the actual progression of the game. There is so much to do in this game and I’m afraid to do the main story to completion because I always have trouble doing post game content in games. My characters are getting to crazy levels in all sorts of classes and I sure am having a blast at least.

The other thing I did, which I am mildly ashamed of, is get into Yugioh. I have the newest DS game and collecting and building decks is as addictive as ever. Playing the game in Japanese is getting me a good bit of reading even if some of the card rulings are confusing to me at times due to my language skills. Still, good fun and good practice.

School starts up again this week and I have the odd feeling I might have more time to play now that I’m going to be back on a schedule. Too much free time for me is a bad thing, I have found. I find it too easy to get lost in something else that isn’t one of the main things I’d like to be doing. Gotta save up money for the upcoming holiday so a few nights at home shouldn’t be a bad thing for neither my wallet nor my backlog.

Let’s Playing Dragon Buster & Dragon Buster II

Dragon Buster isn’t anything new for those of you who saw the “Eric and Alex Wish They Were Japanese Children” video. In fact, it is less as it has been re-cut to fit YouTube’s standards. I think being a bit more trim helps it, honestly. Dragon Buster II is 100% new video of busting goodness.

Let’s Playing Super Wagyan Land

So nice the video length is twice! This one just could not be contained in one video.

Let’s Playing Triple Threat! Famicom Disk System, The Goonies, Magic John

Just making up for the past few weeks I missed. This makes for three videos for you to enjoy. So get to it!

Awesome, YouTube

Sigh
I don’t even know what this person is trying to tell me with this message.

I’m Late!

No, I’m not expecting but a while back I said I was going to try some translating of Famicom games. I poked around stuff and picked out Silva Saga but it seems like it has already been done. I never got around to playing Silva Saga but poking around playing it and trying to hack it was a fun experience on both counts. So perhaps if I find some time I might play the game1 and work on some other game.

  1. In Japanese, of course! []

I’m Back!

This may be no dinosaur story, but I have indeed returned from the land of big ass burgers and baseball. Funny how I saw so much baseball without even really trying.

Anyway, I was thinking maybe I’d get a post up or even get the Let’s Playing videos up but time was limited. Big surprise, I’m sure. I think I’ll throw the two Let’s Playing videos that I had prepared up with this week’s video for a Thuriple Thursday. Be excited.

I’m tired, which can’t really surprise anyone. Being back home was nice but the travel is awful. Eriko and I woke up 3 AM Saturday EDT1 and got to her place at 10:30PM Sunday Japan Time2. For those of you unwilling to do the math, that’s over thirty hours of traveling.

That sucks.

I’ve got pictures to put up, things to write about Dragon Quest and found some Super Famicom games I bought the first time I went to Japan that I’d like to dig into. Right now is a bit of studying before the lady and I go eat some sushi.

But, I am back and I feel fairly rejuvenated and more goal-loaded. Now I just got to start working.
