So the New Year holiday has come and passed but my intestinal woes have not. Having lived in Japan for nearly two and a half years, I thought I was able to handle all Japanese food. Then I had a traditional Japanese New Year breakfast.

Various fish, pickled vegetables, shrimp and other foods made up some of the the dishes my soon to be in-laws offered me. There was nothing bad about it but my stomach was not having it. Was so biazarre. I’ve had all these foods before but never for breakfast. And I felt so sick I couldn’t even finish. Wonder why that was.

If I attempted to fill today’s post with my usual Sunday post of what I have been playing then it would be a fairly blank post. the holiday season can do that to a gamer.

What I have been able to play recently, although, is some Yugioh. I’ve been attending more and more tournaments as of late and it’s been reminding me why these games are great, and I’m not taking about the collecting.

If you’ve watched Pokémon, Yugioh or any of the shows tied to these products, you’ve no doubt seen the messages that they try to impress on the kids. And not just the “buy more shit” but the “believe in yourself” and “friendship matters” shit. And I hate to say it but it’s true. These games really do help bring out more than just pocket money.

I’ve known I’ve had a patience issue for a while but I’ve been very impatient with trying to fix it. And let’s face it. While we teach that patience is a virtue, we’re living in an age where waiting is an inconvenience. Slow internet? Holy shit, what a crime. Commercials? I deserve to skip these. Hell, most people don’t even wait for the tv broadcast, they download the show. But this is an issue aside from what I’m talking about.

Playing Yugioh has reminded me about the power of patience. Hasty playing leads to lost games. Taking time to think out what I’m doing is important. A small lesson from a hobby, to be sure, but a helpful one. Focus also comes into play, and really it’s a good all around aid. Now let’s see if I can get around to winning some tournaments.

Let’s listing!

Since keeping track of progress is cool, I’ve written down on a calendar the name of every game the day I beat it. Eriko wanted to throw away last year’s calendars, so before this one hits the trash can I figured I’d type the list up. Continue reading »

Remember last year when I was saying how I didn’t finish as many games as before? This year was even worse. I had to check to see if I had actually played ten games from 20091. But that won’t stop this site from brining you my glorious opinion. So here we are, at another list!
