No, I’m not expecting but a while back I said I was going to try some translating of Famicom games. I poked around stuff and picked out Silva Saga but it seems like it has already been done. I never got around to playing Silva Saga but poking around playing it and trying to hack it was a fun experience on both counts. So perhaps if I find some time I might play the game and work on some other game.

Translating.
Finally found a copy of the game that I will be soon starting to translate. I had to hit up about five stores before I found one and it wasn’t even boxed! Annoying but at least it isn’t rare.
Walking through Osaka as I write this so I am going to keep it short. Don’t mean to be mysterious (or do I?) but don’t want to say too much before I make good progress.
While the legality of ROMs is pretty unquestionable, I can’t help but think a little foray into some hacking and translating might be good for all the skills I really want to work on for the future. I have been playing around with hex editors and tile viewers today and I expect to announce a project within the next week.
Stay tuned!
Red Scarlet, known on the interwebs for her ass kicking of Super Metroid, tends to show me cool things from time to time. Well, apparently, she read you could beat Dragon Quest 2 (Super Famicom remake) without the second prince. So she did. And had me translate the little blurbs of dialog they added into the game for beating it without him. Nifty!
You can find the info here.
Glad I’m using my Japanese for something these days, haha!
But seriously, little things like this in games are why I’m starting to fall in love with old games again. Not necessarily the ‘nostalgia’ factor. But rather, secrets are still being found in old games, new ways of doing things, and the rewards are simply finding these things, nothing more.
I like that.
